Christmas is two weeks away! Have you started decorating? It can be overwhelming getting your home ready in time for the holidays. Decorating for the season should be fun! It’s the season for spending time with family and friends.
Don’t you love it when you can utilize your existing Christmas décor to create a simple but festive look in your home? Today, I’m sharing five simple holiday decorating ideas for the holidays.
Sort Your Christmas Décor
You need to bring out all your current Christmas decorations to know what you have before you start buying new items. You don’t want to buy the same item twice. I have noticed that this year, the stores are selling the same or similar holiday items as last year.
Once all the decor is sorted, decide on your theme for this year. It can be a specific color scheme and/or a design style. This year, our holiday theme is simple, casual and minimalist. We’re decorating the house with mostly greenery and minimizing our actual Christmas décor . You can see our Christmas home tour here!
Let’s get into the holiday decorating ideas.

Garlands + Wreaths
Not planning on setting up a Christmas tree? Don’t worry, you can use a mix of faux and fresh garlands and wreaths to bring the traditional look of the season into your home. Hang them using command hooks.
Bring the outdoors in by adding greens throughout your home, in vases, in bowls or on top of open surfaces.

Stockings
We love to hang stockings on our fireplace, but if you don’t have a fireplace or need a change this year, stockings can be hung in other places, like on a TV stand, console table or cabinet, stair railings, or used to decorate a wood ladder along with cozy blankets and some greens.
Ornaments
Do you have a collection of holiday ornaments? Using ornaments to decorate your Christmas tree is the popular thing to do, but they can also be gathered together and displayed in decorative objects like bowls, cloches, vases, and baskets. To take it a notch, add some greens. It can be displayed as a centerpiece on the dining table or coffee table.
How about using them as part of your gift wrapping accessories? Gorgeous, right?
LED Candles + Fairy Lights
These are some of my favorite items to use to decorate for the holidays. LED candles and fairy lights can add a warm glow to any space. I love the mood these lights bring in the night – this is a décor option that is practical. With a few batteries, they glow the whole season. I love that you can find them in different forms, from tea lights to votives to pillar candles of different colors and textures.
These candles can be styled on fireplace mantels, coffee tables, dining tables, by the stairs and on wreaths with candle holders. You can add LED candles to glass vases with a mix of fairy lights for a Christmas glow.
Holiday Sweets + Treats
I have to confess that my favorite Christmas treats are Ferrero Rocher, and I’m sure you have your own favorites, too. Use holiday sweets and treats to decorate your home (as well as make them available for yourself. Yes, treat yourself! Okay, treat your guests, too).
To display sweets and treats, use a holiday-themed serving platter, or fill clear canisters or vases of varying heights with your favorites and group them together on your kitchen countertops or on a console table.
