If you’ve attended a party recently, chances are you’ve seen a stunning balloon garland. Balloon garlands have become the latest trend in party decorations, and for a good reason. They are absolutely beautiful! See this awesome garland done by Jen from Paisley & Sparrow.
When planning my son’s birthday party, I wanted to add a fun touch and made a balloon garland. It may seem like it could be a difficult task, but I’m here to show you that it’s easy, and you don’t even need a lot of supplies to create a stunning result.
Let’s get started!
Choosing Your Color Theme
I chose royal blue, silver, and white balloons for my son’s birthday party. His party had a Paw Patrol theme, and these colors complemented the theme and characters well.
When choosing your colors, ensure that you pick colors that blend well together while supporting whatever party theme you choose.

How to Inflate Your Balloons
When creating a balloon garland, you’ll typically need between 100 to 250 balloons, depending on the desired length and balloon sizes. Inflating that many balloons manually can be quite time-consuming, which is why an electric balloon pump can be a lifesaver.

With an electric pump, you can inflate more balloons in a shorter amount of time, making the process much more efficient.
While a single electric pump can get the job done, using a double electric pump can speed up the process even further, allowing you to finish your garland in no time.

You will also need different sizes of balloons. You can simply purchase different sizes, or you can inflate your balloons to different sizes. Make sure not to overinflate the balloons because it will affect the look of your garland.
Once you’ve inflated your balloon, it’s essential to release some air to shape it into a round shape rather than an oval shape. This step is crucial to ensure that all the balloons in the garland have a consistent shape, contributing to the garland’s overall look.
Starting The Balloon Garland
As you inflate your balloons, you must start attaching them together. You start by tying the balloons together in twos at their openings. Choose balloons of different sizes and also balloons of the same size during this part of the process.

This creates depth and dimension in the garland, making it appear fuller and more luxurious. So don’t be afraid to experiment with different balloon sizes to achieve the desired effect!
Once you have joined all your balloons together in this manner, you are ready for the next step.
Putting The Balloon Garland Together
In this step, you need the fishing line. Take the fishing line and begin to tie the pairs of balloons together. Tie the string in the middle of the balloons and then loop the string through to add another pair of balloons to the garland. Secure the string.

Ensure you are looping them together in the desired color pattern. Continue this until you have all of the balloons tied together. Whatever leftover balloons you have can be used to fill in any spots that have holes. Use the glue dots or the fishing string to do this.
To hang your balloon garland, you need either command hooks or no-damage wall hangers. If you plan to attach the garland to a smooth surface, such as a glass or mirror, command hooks are the best choice.

However, if you’re attaching the garland to drywall, no-damage wall hangers are a better option to prevent damage to the wall.
Add the Finishing Touches
Here’s where you can really get creative and personalize your balloon garland to suit your style and event theme. There are a variety of ways to enhance the look of your garland and make it truly unique.
To take your balloon garland to the next level, there are several creative options to consider. Adding faux greenery, ribbons, character balloons, or number balloons are just a few examples of how you can give your garland an extra dose of pizzazz.
