As a mother one of the last people you think about is yourself. There is the constant hustle of everyday life that seems to fill every waking moment. The idea of time to yourself or self-care seems like a distant reality. Even as I prepped for this Mother’s Day, the focus was on my own mother. Thinking of the perfect gift of appreciation to give someone who has done so much for me.
What happened when I was asked about my own plans for Mother’s Day? I was completely caught off guard! I hadn’t even given it any thought. It is as if I’d forgotten… I’m a mom too!
While I am sure my husband and kids are planning something special, I came to an important realization. I was reminded how necessary it is to slow down and think about what I really needed. Self-care is essential to maintain our mental health in order to be the best version of ourselves for our family.
Everyone’s definition of self-care is different but all lead to the same goal. Self-care can be a quiet bubble bath with a glass of wine for some. For others, the idea of self-care is taking a Target run without the kids! Whatever your definition of self-care, be sure that you (or the special woman in your life) takes a little “me-time” and recharges.
