I’m always looking for opportunities to put my love for party planning to good use, and there’s no better opportunity than celebrating my children’s birthdays. For my son’s 5th birthday, he chose a Sonic the Hedgehog theme. If you’re looking for some fun Sonic birthday party ideas, you’re in the right place!
If you are a ’90s kid, you know how big of a deal Sonic was. I’m also a Sonic fan, so this was a fun idea for me to explore.
In this blog, I will share ideas from my son’s Sonic birthday party that will inspire you to make a memorable day for your kid’s party.
Sonic-Themed Party Invitations
I created my son’s Sonic invitations using Punchbowl.com. There are two pre-made design options for Sonic, and I selected the Fast Hedgehog design. You can sign up for a 7-day trial period, but there is a membership fee afterward.
Also, Punchbowl.com allows you to create invites, send them digitally, add video messages, and more.
For another option, see this cool homemade design from the All Womens Talk blog.
Sonic Birthday Party Decorations
When choosing the color theme, I went with softer shades of blue, mustard yellow for tails, and gold to represent Sonic’s rings. These colors also complemented the design of the invitation. The Sonic the Hedgehog watercolor art created by Simply Clip Art Store also inspired me.

The beautiful balloon Sonic backdrop in those colors was created by Lolo Jones. She is a luxury balloon stylist from Lolo Jones Creates in the Dallas Ft. Worth area. I provided her with a party design board that included my color scheme, inspiration photos, and Sonic backdrop design.
And, The IAM Imprints made the custom vinyls with my son’s name and age that were placed around the party space. Along with the vinyls, custom Sonic and Tails characters were part of the custom backdrop. These 2ft tails and 3ft sonic characters were printed on foam board by ByDesigns DFW.

The cute kids’ ghost chairs and table are from Best Party Ever Co., which were the perfect setting for eating and activities. PartyHaus Rentals provided the dessert cart to display all of the goodies.
Sonic Themed Table Decorations
For the table decorations, I took inspiration from the silver diamond stones featured in the Sonic the Hedgehog movie and chose an iridescent theme. Disco party plates layered on top of blue clear plastic dinner plates gave the table depth and dimension.

To complete the look, silver cups that matched the theme and Sonic-themed plastic straws were provided for the kids to sip their drinks in style. The combination of iridescent and metallic accents adds a touch of futuristic flair to the party, making it feel like a true Sonic adventure!
Sonic the Hedgehog Birthday Cake & Desserts
The dessert cart contained a few treats for my son’s guests. They enjoyed blue ombre cotton candy, Sonic wrappers, and custom-made sugar cookies from Lilly’s Sugar Crumbs. The cookies were Sonic the Hedgehog, rings, scenes from the game, and more.

Selina Renee Baking Studio created the delicious sky blue cake, adorned with Sonic cake toppers that were gold rings, a picture of Sonic, and a gold number five for my son’s age.
Sonic Games & Activities
One of my favorite party activities for kids is activity sheets they can color or draw on. They are an easy option because you can find them online and personalize them for your kid’s birthday party. Rosani Shop made the activity sheets for my son’s Sonic birthday party.

The activity sheets are a great addition to the place settings on the table. Finish it off by providing crayons or colored pencils for the kids to use. And another fun activity that the kids enjoyed was balloon animals and hats.
Above all, the most exciting activity for the kids was the bounce house rented from The Bounce Party. With this, you have to ensure everybody stays safe, so it was great that The Bounce Party also provided a sign with the safety rules.

Sonic The Hedgehog Party Favors
Val from Party Creations by Val put together custom party favor boxes complete with Sonic decals and my son’s name. I decided to go with a transparent gable favor box to bring attention to the custom decals.

Inside the boxes, there were push pops, Starburst swirlers, LED yoyos, LED spinner bracelets, Sonic-themed stampers, and sticky glitter hands embedded in light blue crinkle paper.
I thoroughly enjoyed planning and styling this Sonic birthday party together for my son’s birthday. It turned out great! My son and his friends had a blast.
