October is one of my favorite months of the year. It’s my wedding anniversary month and also the month my family and I look forward to enjoying the fall season every weekend together. From baking together to spending time outdoors. The weather is not too hot or cold in Dallas, Texas.
There is no shortage when it comes to fun fall activities for the entire family. There’s something to do for everyone.
So this season, if you are looking for what to do with your family, here are 17 fun fall activities you can plan for everyone.
Indoor Fall Activities
Looking for some cozy indoor fall activities to do with your kids? Here are a few of my favorite things to do this time of year with my family.

Make Halloween Treats
Making Halloween treats with the kids is a great way to get their imagination and creativity flowing. From the comfort of your own home, you can put together 2 or 3 different treats that everyone will love. Make some ‘poisoned apples’ or Halloween chocolate bark to get into the fall spirit.
Baking
Baking is also something you can do from the comfort of your own kitchen. The smell of freshly baked treats filling your home will set a cozy and festive mood that everyone will love. Try baking a caramel apples, carrot cake, or apple cider donuts for your next activity with your kids.
Crafting
Fall activities for kids should definitely include crafting! Crafting is a great way to entertain the family and you can make your own decor while you’re at it. Make some fall wreaths with some materials from the art store and add in some leaves and branches from the backyard. You can even make a fall garland with some leaves and acorns to bring in some of the outdoor fall elements to your home.
Movie Night
There’s nothing better than a cozy movie night at home. Gather some knit blankets, put on your pajamas, make some popcorn and throw on your favorite fall movie. Some great movies for you and the kids to watch include the Harry Potter series, Halloweentown, The Addams Family, or Casper. Add in some of the Halloween treats and baked goods you made together for an extra special night.
Pumpkin Carving/Decorating
Let the kids get creative by getting a few pumpkins for them to carve or decorate. You can also make a trip out of it by visiting a few pumpkin patches in Texas and letting your kids pick their own.

Then all you’ll need are a few pumpkin carving knives and permanent markers so the design doesn’t smudge when carving. You can also decorate pumpkins with some paint, glue, markers, and stickers. It’s a great way to entertain the whole family for a few hours.
Decorate home for Halloween
Get into the spooky spirit by decorating your home for Halloween. Grab some materials and decor from the dollar store and add some festive touches around the house. Add some fake cobwebs and spiders or hang some Halloween-themed string lights to add some ambient light.
DIY Halloween costumes
Who says you have to buy expensive Halloween costumes? You can easily put together some kids’ Halloween costumes at home by getting a few supplies.

Halloween costume ideas for kids can include characters from their favorite movies or shows, matching family costumes, or even something as simple as their favorite animal. You can make a cape or clothing by getting some cloth from the store and adding some finishing touches with face paint. Just remember to have fun and use your imagination!
Read Fall Books
The bookstore during this time of year is always full of fall books you can dive into with your kids. Get some books that are easy for them to read or have lots of pictures that they can follow along as you read out loud. This makes for a fantastic learning experience and will take them on an imaginative journey
Outdoor Fall Activities
Fall is when the vibrant colors of Autumn come to life and there’s no better way to enjoy it than by partaking in some outdoor fall activities. Here are some fall activities to add to your list this season.
Family Picnic
Don’t pack away that picnic basket just yet. Enjoy a family fall picnic and embrace the changing of the seasons by packing a few of your favorite snacks and heading to the park. A fall picnic is a wonderful way to take in some picturesque views and spend quality time with everyone. Pick up some ingredients from your local farm such as some seasonal fruits and baked goods. Don’t forget the drinks! You can also pick up a jug of apple cider or make some hot chocolate and keep it warm in a thermos so everyone can enjoy it on a cool day.

Pumpkin Patch
Every year, farmers open their pumpkin patches to the public so everyone can join in on the fun. They often have some activities to do such as wagon rides or farm animals that you can feed as well. Spend the day taking some pictures and picking out a few pumpkins to take home.
Fall/Harvest Festival
Check your local guides to see what’s going on near you. Usually, there are a few fall festivals held where people gather to enjoy some seasonal treats and take in the fall atmosphere. You might find a corn maze and some fall games to participate in.
Attend a Halloween Trick or Treat Event
You can also check your local guides to see if there are any Halloween events happening in your area. Get your little ones dressed up and have a memorable night of trick or treating. This is the perfect time to put on those homemade kids Halloween costumes.
Apple Picking
Apples are a staple fall fruit that are plentiful in the fall time. Take a day trip to some apple orchards in Texas and pick some fresh apples. This is a great activity to keep yourselves moving and take in the fresh air. You’ll also have plenty of apples that you can use for some fall recipes when you go home.

Botanical Garden
A botanical garden such as the Dallas Arboretum, offers an array of popular annual events to the public. They also offer educational programs for both children and adults so it’s the perfect opportunity to learn about and see new plants.
Visit your Local Zoo
Learn about different animals and their habitats by visiting your local zoo. The fall season is probably one of the best times to go as it’s not too hot and most animals are more active in the cooler weather.
Family Photoshoot
Gather your friends and family and have a scenic photoshoot! Dress for the weather with some cozy outfits and find somewhere with some nice foliage. Be sure to bring a tripod or a stand if you have it so no one is left out of the picture. Once you have your pictures, you can print out a few copies so everyone can have a special piece of that memorable day.
Farmers Market
The farmer’s market in the fall season is always full of beautiful and delicious produce. You can find things like squash, root vegetables, and seasonal fruits like cranberries, apples, and pomegranates to use in your cooking recipes. You should have some fun with it and experiment with produce you have never used before.
